ABOUT US

The Special Hospital for Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology Ohrid - Republic of Macedonia, was founded on 19th July 1950 as a "Hospital for the treatment of bone joint tuberculosis". Through the years, with the hospital's expertise, personnel, and economic development, conditions have been created for the successful treatment of many other orthopaedic diseases (not only bone joint tuberculosis), as well as the implementation of new treatment methods for the acute trauma and its sequels on the bone joint system. In 1988 the hospital transforms into an "Institute for Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology", so that, in 1995, in accordance with the Health Care Law, changes its name into Special Hospital for Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology. Following the modern trends in the orthopaedic surgery, traumatology, and
reconstructive surgery in general, as well as in the physical therapy and rehabilitation, there is a gradual tendency to confirm the attitude towards an expanding expertise and personnel policy, implementing new techniques and methods of work. In accordance with the new demands, we have defined the stance for functionalism and rationalism in the organization of the work. The hospital has 400 hospital beds at its disposal. There are around 2500-3000 patients coming for a medical treatment a year with about 1000 surgeries, and an average medical treatment of 33,2 days. Number of employees: 253; 10 orthopaedic surgeons; 3 anaesthetists; 6 specialists in physical therapy and rehabilitation; 1 urology surgeon (a doctor of med. science); 1 specialist in reconstructive surgery; 1 transfusiologist; 1 radiologist; 1 neurosurgeon; 1 specialist in biochemistry; 2 pediatrics specialists.
